Two stores belonging to US electronics retailer Best Buy in Minnesota had their security systems compromised by thieves, says a report.

In a letter to staff the company said that employees “clearly observed the attempted looting of the Minnesota and Dakota Counties stores”.

No staff members were hurt.

Best Buy had 70 stores in Minnesota at the time of the incident.

The US retail giant said employees at the two Best Buy stores were evacuated in May this year after a “transaction” was detected which was “inappropriate, disorderly and in violation of Best Buy policy.”

“In order to ensure the safety of our stores, we followed our emergency security protocol and all stores were deemed secure,” the company added.

When the investigation began, Best Buy sought to reassure employees of the safety of the stores.

The store located in Apple Valley, north of Minneapolis, had received “several” “suspicious packages,” reports said.

But police in Dakota County, just north of Apple Valley, said they were confident a series of suspicious packages that could be related to the incident were not explosive devices.

Some of Best Buy’s other stores in the region were closed while staff were evacuated and watched out for “possible looters.”
