For many shoppers, Black Friday is a chance to save a little extra. But a better time to stock up on major items, like an air conditioner, would have been Thanksgiving Day or even a few weeks ago, when stores were in full holiday-shopping mode, particularly after Thanksgiving Day turkeys fell on the weekend.
The holidays are also the perfect time to buy a new washer and dryer. New washers and dryers can range from about $900 to more than $1,000. Again, a less expensive shopping day to do so would have been early November, when price wars would be in full swing between Walmart, Target and Best Buy.
Instead, these items are best known for their deep discounts during the beginning of the holiday shopping season. So again, the best time to take advantage of this shopping opportunity would have been earlier in the season.

Then, there’s the big credit card for the holiday shopping season. This is a great time to get a new credit card and to reward yourself with cash back. Rewards cards are generally for people who already use plastic in their wallets and are already earning rewards points or points at various retailers. These cards are good for buying just about anything — furniture, consumer electronics, luxury goods, clothing and everything in between.
Stores are already in full holiday-shopping mode, but some retailers — from Best Buy to Target to Walmart — will offer aggressive discounts on specific items throughout the month. It’s always good to keep an eye out for Black Friday ads; Amazon is releasing many of its ads before Thanksgiving, and many other retailers will begin trickling out their ads as they get closer to Thanksgiving.
Start with rewards cards as a way to save a few extra dollars on your purchases this season. Make sure to pay the balance in full every month, and plan to pay off the balance at the end of the year or early next year, whenever the regular credit card bill hits your home.
There are generally credit cards that earn a cash back or reward reward, while there are also credit cards that offer more reward options for the consumer.
